UNILORIN Reduces Late Certificate Penalties

The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has announced a temporary reduction in penalties for graduates who have not yet collected their certificates. This new directive provides a six-week grace period for affected alumni to claim their certificates without accumulating additional fines.

Key Changes in UNILORIN Certificate Collection Policy

A memo issued by the UNILORIN Registrar, Mr. Mansur Alfanla, FCIML, on 24 April 2025, confirmed the adjustment. The revised policy took effect from 22 April 2025 and will remain valid until 2 June 2025.

Previous Penalty Structure

Before this update, graduates who failed to collect their certificates by 17 January 2025 incurred a weekly penalty of ₦3,000. Due to mounting appeals from students, parents, and alumni, the university management decided to suspend these additional charges temporarily.

As of 22 April 2025, some graduates had accumulated penalties as high as ₦39,000.

New Grace Period: What You Need to Know

No Additional Charges Until 2 June 2025 – Graduates can collect their certificates within this period without further penalties.
Weekly Penalties Resume After Deadline – If certificates remain uncollected after 2 June 2025, the ₦3,000 weekly fine will restart.
