Understanding JAMB 2025 UTME Result Status

Jamb Requirements

If you’re among the candidates, including Ongharaka Success, who received a JAMB notification stating “2025 UTME Result: Underage and Underperformed” after sending “UTMERESULT” to 55019 or 66019, you might be confused or worried. This guide explains what this message means and what steps you should take next.

What Does “Underage and Underperformed” Mean?

This JAMB result status indicates two key issues:

1. Underage

  • JAMB’s admission policy requires candidates to be at least 16 years old by September 30, 2025, to qualify for university or tertiary institution admission.
  • If you were below this age when you took the 2025 UTME, you’re classified as underage.
  • However, JAMB made an exception this year, allowing over 40,000 underage candidates to take the exam for practice and performance evaluation only—not for admission.

2. Underperformed

  • JAMB set a benchmark for underage candidates to prove exceptional ability.
  • If your UTME score was below the threshold (usually 280–300), your result was flagged as “underperformed”, meaning your performance wasn’t strong enough for further consideration.

In simple terms:

✅ You’re below 16 years old (JAMB’s minimum age requirement).
✅ Your UTME score was too low to qualify for any exceptional admission review.

Can You Still Gain Admission in 2025?

Unfortunately, no.

JAMB’s admission rules state that underage candidates cannot be admitted unless they meet all three of these conditions:

  1. They turn 16 by September 30, 2025.
  2. They score 280 or above in the UTME.
  3. They perform exceptionally well in WAEC/NECO and post-UTME (if applicable).

If you don’t meet these requirements, you’ll need to wait until next year when you’re eligible.

What Should You Do Now?

Don’t panic! Here’s how to move forward:
✔ Focus on your WAEC/NECO exams (if still in secondary school).
✔ Prepare early for JAMB 2026—you’ll have a better chance next time.
✔ Improve your study habits—consider online JAMB prep courses for better performance.
