JAMB Officially Releases 2025 UTME Results – Key Details
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially announced the release of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results today, Friday, May 9, 2025. The results were unveiled during a press briefing at 8:00 AM at the board’s headquarters in Bwari, Abuja, marking the conclusion of the examination process for over 1.9 million candidates who participated this year.
2025 UTME Performance: Key Statistics
Ahead of the official release, JAMB provided a statistical breakdown of this year’s UTME performance, revealing some concerning trends:
- Total candidates: 1,955,069
- Candidates scoring below 200: Over 1.5 million
- Candidates scoring above 200 (21.5%): 420,415
- High scorers (300-319): 7,658
- Top scorers (above 320): Only 756
This year’s results show a significant decline in high scorers compared to previous years, sparking nationwide discussions about education standards and exam integrity in Nigeria.
Underage Candidates and Malpractice Cases
The 2025 UTME saw a unique inclusion—40,247 underage candidates (below the official admission age of 16) were permitted to sit for the exam to demonstrate their academic capabilities. However, only 467 (1.16%) met JAMB’s “exceptional ability” benchmark. Their final eligibility will depend on further screening.
Additionally, JAMB reported:
- 97 candidates had their results withheld due to exam infractions.
- 2,157 candidates are under investigation for suspected malpractice.
